Child Dedication

Our children are precious to us and the Lord.  The Bible teaches God owns everything that exists, including the very children we are given (Ps 24:1). In the Old Testament, God claimed direct ownership of every firstborn male (Ex 13:2).  Parents would either give the child to the work of the Temple worship (Hannah with Samuel - 1 Sam) or "redeem" them from the Lord to raise them themselves through a sacrifice like Joseph and Mary with Jesus (Luke 2:22).

These laws are fulfilled through Jesus and are no longer binding.  But for some parents, they like to dedicate all of their children to the Lord for the following reasons:

  • To acknowledge to the Lord they are only stewards of their children, who ultimately belong to the Lord. (Ps 127:3-5)

  • To ask the Lord to give them grace to raise them in His ways (Deut 6:7)

  • To ask their local church to help them raise their children in His ways (1 Tim 3:15)

  • The church to commit to the parents that they will help them raise their children in the ways of the Lord (1 Tim 3:15)

Clarification: This does not grant salvation in any way as salvation is a personal decision of faith and repentance from the child alone before Christ.

Dedicating your child can be a great opportunity to invite family and special friends to celebrate with you, if you would like.

We are planning to also bless you and your family by taking a nice family picture in the lobby before service!

Please complete the form below as well as email an image of your child (preferably high resolution) to two weeks prior to your scheduled dedication.
